Brilliant Explanations Of The Working Of The Mind

In a wide-ranging talk, Vilayanur Ramachandran explores how brain damage can reveal the connection between the internal structures of the brain and the corresponding functions of the mind. He talks about phantom limb pain, synesthesia (when people hear color or smell sounds), and the Capgras delusion, when brain-damaged people believe their closest friends and family have been replaced with imposters.

Flickr Debuts Location-Based Places Pages for Exploring Photos
from wiredd.com

Next time you visit Flickr, you can virtually travel to different cities in the world by viewing the best photos from that place all on one page.

Previously, the photo sharing site just offered a map of the world you could zoom in on to see clusters of photos taken in any particular place. Today's launch introduces place-specific pages for each location where Flickr users are snapping heavily.

The new feature is called Places Pages. Choose Cebu, Philippines, for example. Its places page shows the most interesting photos taken recently in Cebu, along with the most relevant tags and groups for that chilly corner of the globe. You'll also see the most popular photographers (picked based on the "interestingness" of their photos -- Flickr's secret sauce) and other data about the city like weather and a local map.

If this image is familiar to you, then you're really a Cebuano. This is the christmas tree in Fuente Osmena. Every December M.Lhuillier erect this christmas tree to celebrate the greates season of the year. Well, I am not sure if we will be seing this christmas tree this year because it was knockdown the other day by typhoon Lando... what a sad!
Two Brothers Feuding May Result in the End of an Entire Ancient Language

An indigenous language in southern Mexico is in danger of disappearing because its last two speakers have stopped talking to one another.
The two elderly men in the village of Ayapan, Tabasco, have drifted apart, said Fernando Nava, head of the Mexican Institute for Indigenous Languages.

He used the example to draw attention to the threat to indigenous languages across Mexico.

More than 20 of these are under threat of extinction.

'Little in common'

Dr Nava played down reports of an argument between the two Ayapan residents, both in their 70s.

"We know they are not to say enemies, but we know they are apart. We know they are two people with little in common," he told the BBC News website.

"They are really personal reasons that they don't speak to each other. We don't have to think of a war."

The men are the only fluent speakers of their local version of the "Zoque" language.

Other languages from the same root are spoken in the Mexican states of Veracruz, Oaxaca and Chiapas.

The Zoque tribe is thought to descend from the Olmecas and its members are spread around the south of Mexico.

The indigenous languages institute is trying to encourage more local people to speak Ayapan Zoque, and hopes the two men will pass the language on to their families.

It is also being recorded.

"We hope in a few years to be talking about new speakers of the language," Dr Nava said.

Mexico is one of the countries in the world with the richest diversity of languages.

More than 350 indigenous languages are spoken within its territory.

According to the UN, one language disappears across the world every two weeks.

Study Finds Optimism Controlled By Small Area Of Brain "Deep Behind The Eyes"
From huffingtonpost.com

WASHINGTON — A person's optimism in the future seems to be controlled by a small front part of the mid-brain, according to a study that used brain imaging.
That area deep behind the eyes activates when people think good thoughts about what might happen in the future. The more optimistic a person is, the brighter the area showed up in brain scans, the scientists reported in a small study published online Thursday in the journal Nature.
That same part of the brain, called the rostral anterior cingulate cortex (rACC), seems to malfunction in people suffering depression, said the study co-authors, Elizabeth Phelps of New York University and Tali Sharot of University College London.
Researchers gave 15 people functional magnetic resonance imaging scans while they thought about future possibilities. When the participants thought about good events both the rACC and amygdala, which is involved in emotional responses including fear, were activated. But the correlation with optimism was biggest with the cingulate cortex.

Man Made: Ten Things We Never Should Have Stolen From Women

There are certain things in this world that were designed for the female species. We like it that way. Sometimes girls steal our stuff and use it as their own.

But, like women, some men can’t leave well enough alone and want to use these items, too. Everything here only looks right only when applied to women. It only fits women. And thus, everything on this list should only be worn or used by women. It's as simple as that. If you or any of your friends has one of the items on this list you may want to ask them if they actually have a dick, or if they've just been pulling a Boys Don't Cry on you all along.

Pink

When babies are born, they dress boys in blue and girls in pink. Pink is for girls, and as far as we know it always has been and always will be that way. Pink is NOT the new black, and the horrific trend of pink polo and T-shirts permeating mens' wardrobes must be stopped. It doesn’t look good and all these shirts should be destroyed immediately. Pink also does not make you “OK with your sexuality,” and therefore manlier. That is some serious chick logic, right there. The day guys wearing pink is OK is the same day we see a NFL team sporting pink jerseys. That will never happen, and if it does, we'll sadly be too long dead to do anything about it. But if ghosts exist, you'd better believe we'll haunt the shit out of you pink-wearing bitches.

Purses

Women have a lot of shit to haul around. Granted, some guys need to haul around a lot of shit, too. Here’s the deal though: men usually wear pants with pockets. Mini skirts and women’s jeans really don’t come with such conveniences. Hence, they need a small bag to put all their makeup and shit in. Guys, if you have to carry around more stuff than will fit in your pockets, you are carrying around too much shit. If you insist on being a fucking pack-rat, throw it in a backpack. There is absolutely, positively no reason ever to carry a man-purse.

T-back Underwear

How this article of clothing ever made it into men’s wardrobes is beyond us. While acceptable only -- and we mean only -- for Chippendales dancers (really, what else would they wear? One caveat, though: Chippendales dancers are not acceptable.), a thong on a dude as regular issue is wrong on so many levels. There’s nothing worse than checking out some fine piece of ass with a whale-tail only to find out it’s a dude wearing a thong. That shit will send you to therapy.

Eyeliner

First and foremost, it’s EYEliner. Not GUYliner. We don’t give a rat’s ass who renamed that shit while trying to make a buck. We’ve already discussed this issue and there’s no sense in beating a dead horse.

How to Make a Positive Impression

Making a positive impression on someone you met through a networking event or online need not be a difficult or use much of your time or resources. The following 15 quick ways to make a positive impression are designed to be easy to implement and most only take a few minutes to do, depending on where you are at.

The list is geared toward network-savvy professionals, especially those who are actively involved in expanding their business or ideas. Most of these 15 ways do not require having an in depth knowledge of the areas of interest of the person you want to impress. It is simple enough to ask for more information where you aren’t sure.
These things should come from a genuine area of interest and there should be no expectation of getting something back if you do one or more of these things for someone. Think of the impression you have of those who do these sorts of things for you from time to time – likely a positive one.

1. Forward relevant articles. Forwarding one or two articles or links is all that you should do here unless you get feedback asking for more of them. Don’t annoy someone by sending tons of stuff forever. One or two well chosen articles should do nicely. Audio and video clips are included in this.

Hi everyone! Thanks for visiting my blog. I'm so sorry my dear reader and fan that I haven't posted for quite awhile. You know, it is really hard, having two jobs at the same time . You just don't know until you try... hehehe

As a citizen, i think it is noteworthy to have our say regarding this fiasco, or i should call it a scam. i posted a video here so you can judge it for yourself. (just click the picture to play)

Next time, watch less T.V. and hit a good book or so...

Have a great day then!

Survey: Men Happiest With Smart Wives
Sydney Morning Herald | Adele Horin

Men in search of true happiness should steer clear of bimbos and dumb blondes: research shows men are happiest if they marry smart women.

Every extra year of education a wife has under her belt significantly increases the chances her husband will report being highly satisfied with life. But Shane Mathew Worner, of the Australian National University's economics program, says it may be that an educated woman's earning power is her biggest asset.

In a paper to be presented at the HILDA Survey Research conference this week, he says "the higher the education level of the wife, the happier the husband is."
